Sri Ramakrishna:
Embracing the Divine
Videotaped at the University of Hawaii at Manoa
January 17, 1997 |
| |
Sri Ramakrishna was an Avatar, a divine incarnation of God, who was born in India in 1836, and left his body in 1886. While his earthly life was short, Sri Ramakrishna came to harmonize all religions, and was the embodiment of God's pure, unconditional love. He said, "I am the string running through all the pearls," the pearls being the individual religions of the world. He taught universal respect and tolerance for the myriad of different paths that people must take to realize God. Sri Ramakrishna sent a messenger to Divine Mother, who taught her how to give out Sri Ramakrishna's message for this age. Divine Mother was a simple, humble woman who was born in the little sugar town of Waipahu on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Hear about the lives of these two remarkable mystics who transformed the lives of millions of people through their powerful transmissions of eternal truths that call the spiritual consciousness back to the divinity that inherently resides in each person. The beautiful Lotus Sutras are believed to have been imparted by the great Lord Buddha himself. In the Lotus Sutras is a Bodhisattva called Avolokitesvara, which means in sanskrit, "One who hears the cries of the world." When Avalokitesvara's name was translated from Sanskrit to Chinese, it became Kuan Shih Yin, then Kuan Yin, and in Japanese, Kwannon.
